First and foremost, we are adventurers, mentors, and storytellers. We are inspiration makers and courage builders. We seek to create unforgettable moments that remind others of our common humanity - to inspire, encourage, comfort, expose, challenge and to bear witness to the beauty, excitement, and mystery to life. We aspire to help women break free from who they think they are to who they are meant to be.
The word “Wayward” means a person who thinks for themselves. A person who refuses to bend to the conventions of society. Although Wayward Adventures supports the role in healthcare tremendously, we believe that treating the whole person is the best prescription to overall health and healing. It takes courage to stand up and decide to live life differently.
INVESTING IN MOMENTS THAT TRULY MATTER
As the founder of Wayward Adventures, I have spent the last 20 years in the Palliative Care and Oncology arena. I have listened to hundreds, literally, thousands of patient stories. Through all the stories there is one reoccurring theme that constantly comes up. It goes something like this: "I wish I would have been the driver in my own life". "I wish I would have taken more risks". "I wish I wasn't so serious". As the years roll on, the faces have changed, but the stories behind them always remain the same. These same sentiments were said the day I held my own mother's hand, as I watched her take her last breath - as a rare and aggressive type of cancer took her own life. It's the echoing voice that sometimes whispers, sometimes screams- "GO LIVE". Our programs are more than thrilling adventures and the relaxing experiences. They are specificity designed to empower, connect, and create mindfulness to what truly matters in our lives. With our eyes open to the impermanence of all things, we begin to see what truly matters in our lives today. Wayward Adventures was born out of the notion to challenge women to start thinking. To start talking. To start doing. So when the final chapter of your life comes to a close, what story will you tell?
the why behind wayward adventures
Wayward Adventures addresses what the National Comprehensive Cancer Network has identified as an integral component of the clinical management of people being affected by cancer, which is, quality psychosocial care. Our programs are designed to increase self-efficacy, physical fitness, cognition, interpersonal relationships, while decreasing feelings of depression, anxiety, isolation, and overall feelings of distress. Wayward Adventures feels different, because it is different. We stand by our conviction that real growth occurs beyond four walls of an office.
